Arbitrary
Because this series began so (like most of my series really). What I'd intended was to produce kinetic, playful-provocative, typography-centred work. But when deploying the 'optical flow' effect to my already dancing, 4xglitched (Glitch Studio app) & Adobe Photoshop timeline-merged '& Play' x 'Yellow' typographics, these turned into mutable, lyrical liquid I like. Now this happened because i decided to experiment, to play some more. I'd intended one thing. But something else materialised. Truly the beautiful thing about art-making in my mind is that often it begins &/or ends in arbitrary fashion rather than that the whole thing was completely calculated. I'd noticed much of this phenomena of the work animating on its own vs utter & complete calculation on my part, including 'mistakes'/'accidents' that prove crucial to the work's becoming. Because always for me (& i believe for any creator of anything), i begin experimentally, playing with this or that. All I had was an idea. All I did was play. And then some instinctual thing moves me one way or another. This is the most pleasurable, electric thing: when I don't know what will come but believe I'll get there and then I do. Or I don't (yet) and start again. I like the playing part very much, the adventuring into what-i-don't-know-exactly but only imagine, only feel, discovering things and figuring them out as I go . You feel this kind of irrational fever & joy while 'in the flow', some 'holy fuck' kind of feeling really, culminating in what you sincerely could not completely quantify, only that somehow in your gut you know your work's done. In life & living as in art & the creative process, there's palpable mystery even in (what appears to be) conscious intention going on. Some quotes: "The creative mind plays with the objects it loves. It is not driven by logic, but by a playful, irrational necessity." (Carl Jung) + "... person who is under a spell, but it is a spell they do not completely understand. The story is a gift that presents itself; you do not engineer it, you receive it." (Neil Gaiman) | Ongoing from October 2026. | Comes as (1) works on paper, on William Hahnemuhle fine art textured matt rag, 310gsm (2) digital works on-chain (later, yet to be minted).
